Thad is married to Emily, and they have three children: Mary Frances, Chip, and John Willis. The Thompson family resides in Norcross, with deep family roots in the area dating back to the early 1800s.
Thad is an active member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, where he serves as a Youth Group Leader and Chair of the Finance Committee. He holds degrees from Young Harris College and Georgia College and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in financial planning at the University of Georgia, with an anticipated graduation in December 2025.
In 2019, Thad was appointed by Governor Brian P. Kemp as a commissioner of the Georgia Student Finance Commission, representing the Seventh Congressional District. He was reappointed in 2024 to serve the Fourth Congressional District. In this capacity, he plays a key role in overseeing the allocation of over $1 billion in scholarship aid to students across Georgia.
Thad serves on the Trustee Advisory Board for Young Harris College and the Board of Camping and Retreat Ministries for the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church.
In 2023, Thad was honored as Young Harris College's Young Alumni of the Year. He has also been consistently recognized among Atlanta's top financial advisors under 40 by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Thad is a Partner and Private Wealth Advisor with On Point Wealth. Spending time with family, being outdoors, and working in the community is what he enjoys most.
